Today I imagined my life as an 80 year old. My kids will be in their 50's, my grandkids will be in their 20's, and who knows maybe there will be a great grandchild in the picture or on the way. When I'm 80 I would like to think that I made choices that led to a life where I can still take care of my family, not where they have to take care of me. Have you thought about your future lately? #wellnesswednesday #nutritioncareofrochester #longlife #eatright #treatyourbodywell #rochesterny #irondequoitny

This quote nails it on the head for #wellnesswednesday! Preventative nutrition needs to get in the spotlight and that won't change unless people change their ways. It doesn't hurt to seek the services of a #registereddietitian for guidance on nutrition for themselves and their families. We offer a wealth of information from simple solutions to complex cases. We are highly skilled and trained and we want to use this knowledge to benefit the common good. Just like other professions we all offer something unique so instead of writing off all RDN's for good because you saw one that you didn't like search for one that will work with you on your unique lifestyle. Because the nutrition services you get should be as unique as you. #rochesterny #preventativenutrition #nutrition

M is for magnesium! Magnesium is an amazing mineral that plays a huge role in how our body functions. I can’t even scratch the surface with everything that it does and can do. What I want to highlight today is that it is easy to get magnesium from food if you are eating a diet high in whole grains, leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds. But most Americans get their magnesium from coffee, beer, chocolate, and French fries. If you have a low magnesium intake and you are a child, it may produce ADHD symptoms. If you are a woman of childbearing age, you might have symptoms of PMS if you are low in magnesium (maybe that’s why we crave chocolate, is our body telling us what it needs?). If you are a pregnant woman with low magnesium, it could increase your chances of developing preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, restless legs, constipation, and migraines. You can’t over dose on dietary magnesium, but you can get too much magnesium from supplements. Too much is not good and can cause some undesirable side effects. If you are interested in learning more about magnesium and your health, call to make an appointment today! 585-563-9000 #wellnesswednesday #atoznutrition #rochesterny #magnesium #registereddietitian

L is for lentils! Lentils are packed full of fiber that is great for lowering your cholesterol and your blood sugar. It’s also great for preventing constipation, diverticulosis, and irritable bowel syndrome. They are also high in folate and magnesium, two necessary nutrients for a healthy pregnancy! Lentils are a great source of iron, a mineral that we already learned about as being a necessity for infants, children, but also for pregnancy, lactation, and adolescent girls. Lentils don’t need to be pre-soaked like other dried beans so it makes them really easy to prepare. You should rinse them though and inspect them for little stones. Boil 3 cups of water and add 1 cup of lentils, when the water returns to a boil, put it to simmer for 20-30 minutes or even longer if you are preparing certain dishes that may need mushier lentils. Lentils truly are a superfood, if you haven’t included them into your diet yet, I highly recommend it! Babies love lentils! What are your favorite ways to eat lentils? #wellnesswednesday #atoznutrition #lentil #hearthealth #iron #folate #magnesium #rochesterny #registereddietitian #superfood
